Establishment: The competition was officially established in 1969 as the Slovak Cup. After the division of Czechoslovakia, it has continued independently since 1993.
Format: Single elimination tournament with single matches. In the event of a tie after 90 minutes, penalties follow. The exception is the semi-finals, which are played over two legs (home and away).
Participation: Clubs across all league levels – from amateur regional teams to the Premier League – are participating in the competition. A record 260 clubs were involved in the 2024/25 season, while the 2025/26 season had up to 292 teams.
